Martin L. Kern, Esq., RPLU Executive Director
Mr. Kern was a principal member of Academic's original planning team. Beyond his extensive experience in the healthcare professional liability insurance industry, he has served as counsel on a variety of healthcare related issues including occupational safety and health litigation and workers' compensation. He leads a professional staff dedicated to managing risk for clinical educators.

Joseph Bardi Executive Vice President
Mr. Bardi joined Academic in September, 2012. His prior experience includes positions at several top-tier investment banking, consulting and insurance brokerage firms namely, Aon, KPMG and Merrill Lynch.

Jean Calaci, CPA Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Calaci joined Academic in October, 2011. She is a Certified Public Accountant with an MBA in Finance and more than 20 years experience in the insurance industry, including positions at New York Life and in public practice audit.

Richard Brooks Director of Compliance
Mr. Brooks has extensive financial as well as regulatory audit experience. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Steven Capone, MBA Vice President and Senior Underwriter
Mr. Capone leads a staff of five underwriters specializing in underwriting faculty clinicians and attendant staff. He received his MBA in Finance from Mount St. Mary's.

Maria McGough Claims Manager
Ms. McGough is principally involved in overseeing, negotiating and managing complex claims for Academic. She helps lead Academic's Claims Committee.
